If you’ve ever said the words, “My dog just won’t settle!” then you’re in the right place. At Taylor & Floof, we design settle mats that aren’t just stylish, they’re training tools disguised as everyday dog gear. But what exactly is a settle mat, and how can it help you and your pup live a calmer, more connected life?
Table of Content
A settle mat is a designated space your dog learns to relax on. It acts as a visual cue that tells your dog: this is your calm spot. Unlike a traditional dog bed, a settle mat is meant for training, travel, and real-life use at home, in cafes, pubs, or anywhere you want your dog to chill.
Teaching your dog to settle on a mat has real-life benefits especially for:
Anxious or reactive dogs who need help regulating in busy environments
Working breeds who crave structure and thrive with a "job"
Puppies learning calm behaviour from day one
Dogs who travel often or visit cafes, pubs, or family homes
When used consistently, your dog learns that the mat equals "do nothing and chill." You can train this using place commands, high-value rewards, and repetition. Over time, the mat itself becomes a calming cue, even in unfamiliar spaces.
Consistency: Use the same mat and placement cues during training. Sets them up for success when you do add in distractions.
Positive Reinforcement: Reward calm behaviour. Top tip drop treats onto the mat instead of feeding directly to your dog.
Portability: Take it everywhere to generalise the behaviour.
We started this business because our own dog couldn’t settle. At all. We tested fabrics, padding, and portability until we found what actually worked and looked good too.
Our Settle mats
A settle mat isn’t just a cute accessory. It’s a powerful, confidence-boosting tool that helps your dog feel safe, calm, and included. If you're looking for a way to bring more calm into your day-to-day life with your dog this is it.
Yes, especially in the beginning. Consistency is key when teaching a new behaviour. Once your dog understands the settle cue, you can mix things up.
Absolutely! Many reactive or anxious dogs prefer the open security of a mat to the confinement of a crate. It’s a great alternative for creating safe zones at home or on the go.
Nope. Once learned, it becomes part of your lifestyle. It’s not just a training tool it’s a travel essential, a calm-down corner, and your dog’s personal space.
Settle mats offer numerous benefits:
Portability: Train your dog at home and take the mat with you on outings.
Calming Effect: Helps excitable dogs switch off and provides anxious dogs a safe space.
Training Aid: Useful for teaching dogs to settle around strangers.
Visibility: Mats with messages like "Dog in Training" or "Do Not Disturb" make your dog more visible and signal that they shouldn't be interrupted.
We currently sell 4 sizes. Please consider the size of your dog and also what you plan on using the mat for. Boundary training we recommend a smaller mat but for enrichment and comfort we recommend larger sizes.
